A Pilgrimage Trip To Grishneshwar
30 km away from the Aurangabad city
In Verul is the temple of the almighty
Near Ellora caves is this place
Where Lord Shiva blesses with his Grace
The twelth jothirling as Grishneshwar
Also known as Ghushmeshwar
In 18th century was temple’s reconstruction
Queen Ahilyabai Holkar did the restoration
A temple where the devotees throng
I wanted to be a devotee lifelong
So We Travelled from Secunderabad
By train to Aurangabad
Prayed with bilva leaf offerings
To the Lord invoking his blessings.
In February 2023 , myself and my husband planned to make it to Shirdi, as it was almost 4 years since our last trip due to covid related situation. When we decided our Shirdi trip my husband, who likes to visit historical places, suggested that we should also make it to the Ajanta and Ellora caves at Aurangabad. So we included Ajanta and Ellora also in our tour plan. Later some of our friends suggested that we should also make it to the Verul which was near ellora caves and have Darshan of Lord Grishneswar. Thus finalizing our tour programme ( itinerary) we three (including our younger son ) started on our tour. We left Secunderabad on the 9th February , by Ajanta express and reached Aurangabad in the morning at around 5.30 . Checked into a hotel which was near the station and freshened up. We planned a two days stay at Aurangabad . Grishneshwar temple was the first in the itinerary followed by ellora caves, Paithani handloom shop , Bhadra Maruthi Temple, Bibi ka maqbara (small tajmahal) and Aurangabad caves on the first day . Ajanta caves was decided for the next day. After breakfast we booked a cab and started our journey at 9.30 in the morning and reached the temple at around 10.30. The temple was located in Verul , which was 30 kms away from the Aurangabad city . There were very few devotees waiting for Darshan in a line and we also joined them. It took us only a half an hour time and we had an easy darshan of lord Grishneshwar. The devotees were allowed to touch the Jyothirling and perform puja . We offered Bilva leaves and prayed seeking the blessings of the divine . Taking Pictures was prohibited inside the temple premises and therefore we did not. After the Grishneshwar Darshan we left for the historical wonder - the Ellora caves....
